McGraw Hall Pre-Project Study Cornell University Ithaca, NY
McGraw Hall, the third building constructed on the Cornell University campus, opened in 1872.
Situated between its slightly older neighbors, Morrill Hall and White Hall, it’s the centerpiece of
Old Stone Row, built along the ridge of Libe Slope.
Originally housing the University Library and a large Natural History Museum, the approximately
60,000 square foot building now accommodates four academic departments and programs.
The Study’s conclusions allowed the University to define a project which will meet the space
needs of its current occupants and accommodate growth over the next 5 to 10 years. The
proposed renovation will modernize the building for the next 50 years, and will appropriately
respond to McGraw Hall’s historic design and its place on the campus and in the history of the
University.
